One of the most exciting aspects of being a wedding photographer is all the magnificent destinations we travel to, and the diverse people have the pleasure of working with. One such photo shoot took us to one of the most recognizable man made wonders of the world, the Roman Colosseum of Rome, Italy. A common motif in many of our photographs are the elements of modern, timeless elegance contrasted to ancient landmarks that give the photo an overall "moment out-of-time" feel. This photo captures this elegant bride-to-be, wrapped in a flowing red dress and veil that sweeps toward the camera. She stands in front of the Colosseum, its many arches are illuminated within by the golden lighting of the floodlights. Twilight is slowly turning to dusk and the sky is only faintly touched by the setting sun giving the sky a deep blue texture.
We had the pleasure of knowing the bride and groom personally, prior to their wedding. Not only was this photo shoot for our dear friends, but it granted us a very comfortable photo shoot that was very close to our hearts.
Typically this location would be flooded with tourists, and pedestrians, however it had recently rained and had sent many people home. This gave us a one an a lifetime moment to take photos uninterrupted, and we took full advantage of these outrageously favorable conditions. It was only us, our cameras, the Colosseum and the beautiful bride and groom.
