Now that’s how to get to know your clients!
So Sherry and I often talk about how we love to get to know our clients so that we can do the best job possible capturing their wedding. Well over the past couple days we have perfected our methods and have found the best possible way to get to know our clients. Now I must warn you in advance, as this might not be for every couple and the methods may seem a bit extreme, but as you will see, they are very effective.
About a month and a half ago, after having decided to do their engagement shoot in Lake Louise, AB, Tom and Kate, and Sherry and I both booked a room at a certain hotel in Banff as it would be most convenient to stay at the same hotel. So I got on to Expedia and booked two rooms, one under our name and one under Tom’s. Well we had an awesome engagement shoot much of the afternoon and evening and we arrived at our hotel at almost midnight. All four of us were super tired and ready to go to sleep. We went up to the check in counter and the lady behind the desk responded and said “I’m sorry, we don’t have a room here for you tonight”… … … ummm… … … What?
After a little bit of detective work we discovered that Expedia had sent the wrong date request to the hotel and our rooms were booked for another night completely! So this raises a particular question… How do you find a room in Banff, Canmore or the surrounding area on a weekend in July? YOU DON’T!!
After many calls to the different hotels in the area and finding out that everywhere was booked… we found 1 room! YES! So Tom and Kate took one bed… and David and Sherry took the other! Other than the uncomfortable pillows, it was a great night.
So, in summary, the best way to get to know your clients is to book a room that ends up being passed off to the hotel on the wrong day so that when you arrive at 12 o’clock at night to check in they tell you to go somewhere else, then you frantically search around town for a hotel and find one to share. Then you get up and go for breakfast and spend the day walking around Banff together like tourists. So sure, it’s not for everyone… but Sherry and I just go the extra mile 😀
Thanks for an awesome couple days Tom & Kate!
